Grading and Fitness Requirements
Dive Grading and Competency Requirements for Weh Island, Aceh
Weh Island offers a range of dive sites suitable for both beginners and intermediate divers, providing a fun and memorable diving experience.
Beginner (Level 1) – Shallow Reef Diving
Depth: 5 – 12 meters
Visibility: 15 – 25 meters
Sites: Rubiah Sea Garden, Pantai Iboih
Conditions: Calm waters, minimal current
What to Expect: Ideal for new divers and those completing their Open Water certification. Explore vibrant shallow coral gardens with tropical fish and smaller marine life.
Required Competency: Open Water certification or completion of a Discover Scuba Diving course. Divers should have basic buoyancy and finning skills, and be comfortable in calm waters.
Intermediate (Level 2) – Drift and Reef Diving
Depth: 12 – 25 meters
Visibility: 20 – 30 meters
Sites: Batee Tokong, Gapang Beach
Conditions: Moderate currents, potential for drift diving
What to Expect: Drift dives along colorful coral walls, teeming with marine life, including moray eels, lionfish, and larger schools of fish. Divers may encounter eagle rays and barracudas.
Required Competency: Advanced Open Water certification or equivalent. Divers should manage buoyancy in moderate currents and be comfortable with dives up to 25 meters.
Advanced (Level 3) – Deep and Challenging Drift Diving
Depth: 25 – 40 meters
Visibility: 20 – 30 meters
Sites: The Canyon, Pantee Peunateung
Conditions: Strong currents, deeper water
What to Expect: These dives are for more experienced divers who are comfortable with strong currents and deep water. Expect to see mantas, reef sharks, and large pelagic species in more complex underwater topography.
Required Competency: Advanced Open Water certification with a minimum of 30 logged dives. Experience in drift diving is essential, with strong buoyancy control and current-handling skills.

Weh Island Diving Itinerary
Day 1:
Arrive at Banda Aceh's airport, followed by a transfer to the ferry terminal for your journey to Weh Island. After an hour-long transfer to Weh Ocean Resort, settle in and enjoy your first two dives, including a check dive to familiarize yourself with the waters.
Day 2:
Start the day with an island tour, exploring the charm of Sabang town before heading back into the water for two more exhilarating dives. For the adventurous, an optional night dive can be arranged at an additional cost.
Day 3:
Enjoy a full day of diving with three scheduled dives. If you’re eager for more, an extra dive can be arranged (additional cost).
Day 4:
Begin the day with a dolphin-watching trip before embarking on two more dives. End the day by visiting KM0 Indonesia to witness a breathtaking sunset.
Day 5:
Check out from Weh Ocean Resort and head to Sabang ferry terminal. After arriving back at Banda Aceh, explore the city and take part in the Aceh Tsunami Tour before your transfer to the airport for your departure.
